Learning from the Genius of OUR Place
The B-Collaborative's Amy Coffman Phillips is the co-founder of Biomimicry Chicago,a local network dedicated to inspiring and educating local practitioners to learn from nature to design more sustainably. Amy is coordinating their inaugural project, The Prairie Project (a Genius of Place initiative), where we look to our native ecosystem as a mentor by which we judge the environmental performance of our developments.  Affiliated with Biomimicry3.8's global initiative, this project has three components:
  • (re)connection with our native landscapes,
  • (re)learning what makes them special, in order to
  • (re)think how we design restoratively.
We collaborated with the Living Building Challenge Collaborative in Chicago for the initial phase of this project and our work was recently featured in the latest issue of Trim Tab, the quarterly publication of the Living Future Institute.  We continue to look for collaborators who share a vision of locally-attuned, restorative design for our region and who are willing to put their talents to use to make it a reality.
